Self branding
For this project, I produced a new logo for my design business Mcxi. From this, I created a embossed logo, finalised with white screen print to display the creation of the logo. I also produced up to date business cards and experimented with business ‘labels’. T-shirt design has also been produced and are still in process of creation. To finalise this project, a new website was fully coded.   

Even though the name of the business is still the same, a new logo was necessary as Mcxi now needed to symbol as a logo rather than a typeface. This is so the logo can be created over photographs of peoples clothing and clients will not get confused on who's products they are. The embossed logo was created in the Leeds College of Art print room. This was to demonstrate how the logo was create and will be used as self promotion.

Business cards have been created as details and the logo have been updated and finalised last year. These business cards where produced by moo.com as the double sided printing in Leeds College of Art does not always come out perfect. When the final cards were received, the type was thinner than expected, however it can still be read. Business cards are a necessity for Mcxi as they have been proven useful when meeting new people at fashion events.

To take the Mcxi branding further, business labels were experimented with after the idea was produced in a crit. These labels will work as a business card, however they will be in the style of a clothing label to link with he fashion work Mcxi creates. T-shirt designs have also been created to take the branding further. This is for promotion purposes at photography shoots.

The final completed Mcxi website was fully re-designed and personally coded for this brief. The website is designed very similar to a fashion website, taking inspiration from fashion side nav bars, look book pages and product pages. This website was proven to be a success as multiple of clients have contacted me through the website asking for fashion related design work.


Overall I am pleased with the amount of work that has been produced and the quality of the final outcome. As a brief, I feel like I have improved on any self branding work I have previously done. The outcomes of this brief was proven to be successful, as I have already handed out lots of business cards, with clients getting back to me. Clients have also been contacting me via email, explains how they found it from viewing my website.



Final Presentation
Presenting for me is something that I feel like I have improved of massively through-out the three years at university. At college, presentation did not occur, therefore the only presentation skills I had was from high school, ages 16 and below.

During my second year, I finally took the the dyslexia test, resulting in confirmation the I am dyslexic. Before this result, I always knew that I struggled when it came to reading when presenting. However with the proof of being dyslexic, a lot of pressure has been release, resulting with more confidence.

When presenting my final PPP presentation, I defiantly felt an improvement from previous years and I was not talking about what I ‘want’ to be doing, but what I ‘am’ doing. My confidence was also greater than previous years as I had a grater understanding of what I was talking about. By watching other presentations, I felt that I was defiantly on track to achieve my goals as I was finding a larger about of live work and clients.

Hyperloop and DBA
The Hyperloop task with DBA was very useful when it came to understanding large group tasks. The group I was in consisted of Me, Alex Phipps, Ryan Daley, Matthew Brewer and Liam Bailey. This group was chosen because we worked really well in the PPP group task of Level 5, creating Barbered design.

When starting this task, all the group did individual research and came up with ideas. After this stage, we set ourselves individual tasks, for example Alex was set to do the branding and I was set to design the web elements.

The pitch with the DBA was the part of the project which I gain the most from as I have never been involved in a proper pitch before this. Myself, Ryan and Matthew attended the pitch as we felt more confident than the others. Surprising the pitch was a lot more relaxed than expected and the feedback we received was very useful for both design and pitch purposes.



Visiting professionals
Visiting professionals briefs this year was harder to find for me as a lot of the guest specialised in different area of graphic design than I did. The designers that I took to the most was Lee Goater and the two designer at Myriad.

Lee Goater stood out to me mostly because of his personality and how confident he was when it came to talking about his work. Lee also showed some work that I was very interested in, for example the Adidas Ultra boost campaign he helped direct. I was also lucky enough to have Lee for my portfolio crit, which he gave a lot of good feedback and layout suggestions.

Myriad were also a visiting professionals I was interested in as I could relate to their work through web design. Myriad also highlighted a lot of different ways to gain and keep clients.



Live and collaboration briefs.
Live brief are projects that I set myself out to do lots of this year as I wanted to leave with a portfolio full of live work as from meeting with design studios, these are the briefs they are more interested in.

Finding live briefs was not that difficult as I already work for a clothing company in Manchester, who provided me with two large live briefs. Two other live projects were carried out on my 10 day work experience placement. The rest of my live projects consisted of clients that had contacted me through my website or Instagram.

Overall I managed to complete 6+ live briefs within the OUGD603 module, allowing me to complete my goal of having a full portfolio of live briefs.

Most of my collaborations tasks were completed with Ryan Daley. As we live together and have similar interests, we tend to work well together. Ryan also is a stronger writer, who has an interest in advertising. Therefore he allows me to take lead on design, while he takes the lead on the adverting side.



Getting a job

As I have been working for Rockfield Media through-out summer and easter since my first year of University and they sponsored me for my third year, I was fortunate enough to be offered a full-time job for when I graduate.

I will taking on both junior and senior graphic design roles when working at Rockfield Media, therefore this job will be a massive help when creating a live portfolio. This job will start on the 25th of May, 2016.

OUGD602 - DBA - Hyperloop Identity - First idea

The group had a very informal meeting about our ideas for potential logo concepts for Hyperloop. Matthew came up with one strong concept based on maths and science and the relationship between speed, time and distance visualised in the form of a graph - the lines on which would form the visuals for the logo.

Introduction:

For the DBA Hyperloop brief I'll be working with Ryan Daley, Matthew Brewer, Alex Phipps and Liam Bailey. This is the same group that worked successfully on Barbered Design in PPP last year. We also cover each others weaknesses well, which was important given that we didn't know the brief in advance - for example Ryan confident at presenting than most of the others.

Mcxi business cards

The Mcxi business cards were designed on Adobe Illustrator and printed with moo.com.

I chose to print with moo.com as I have used them before with my previous business cards and I was happy with the results.

Business cards will be useful for me, as I meet a lot of new people and photoshoots and fashion events that I attend and many people say my services could become useful for them.

My business card is simple and has all necessary details on the back. Like my website, this design is is inspired by designs from high-end fashion companies.

Mcxi logo

Logo

My personal branding has been 'Mcxi' since 2013, however my logo has changed over the years. When I started Mcxi, I tended to do more illustration work, therefore I had an illustrated logo.

As my practice is now more fashion based, I wanted a typography logo, to keep constancy with most high-end fashion brands.

After using the new type logo for a year, having a type logo caused some problems as in some designs, it could of been mistaken as a misplaced piece of type, rather than a logo/symbol.

Therefore a new logo was developed, creating a new logo that could be used as both type and a symbol.




The new logo was made in Adobe Illustrator, so it could work at any size.

It is also very important that the logo can work in black and white so it could be applied to any background.

Primary and secondary logos have been created so the logo can always work, no matter the size and scale of the design.
